After plotting for so long, we have finally got our van. Greg spotted the yellow piece of machinery wonder in his beloved Bushwick hood and soon ,after some negotiation, it was ours.
The Singles
We have recorded, mixed and mastered five songs and they are being released as singles.
"The Point" was the first release and it was made available as a free download to our fans.
"The Old Way" followed.
We are now in the midst of promoting our third single "Bartlett's Quotations", featuring also a very cool video directed by the amazing Jackie Whatsin and starring the beautiful and talented Bridget McMillan.
Van Welder is really allowing us to spread Welder vibes all over, far and beyond.
This is what happened on our first voyage.
The Voyage
We left New York to play a couple of shows. The first stop was New Castle (DE).
Our ride there was quite smooth. We arrived in a timely fashion and went straight to our comfy hotel, courtesy of The Campbells, dropped our stuff and hit the Liquor Store, conveniently located across the street, for some "beverages"(choice of word from some lame band).
Being a punctual bunch, we arrived at the venue a bit ahead of schedule. JB McGuinness is a Big Bar/Greasy Grub/Pool Table/Cheap Booze...sort of place, with a surprising Grand Stage and phenomenal sound system.
Once more we rocked as usual just before The Keefs took the stage for a tight energetic pop set.
( The Keefs )
Greg had an old local lady friend attend and she really seemed to enjoy the game on tv.
( Weldermen post show antics)
After rocking our asses off we got ourselves some grub, made friends with some locals or is it "locos"?! And went back to our comfy hotel rooms.
( One of the rooms. Mercy Campbells)
Steve and i had a little wine as Declan and Greg didn't. Wine is way to lame for them unless there is no other more substantial liquor left.
As the harder drinking Welders were snoring away, Steve and i had ourselves some hearty complimentary(??) breakfast. Steve had himself a mouthful of sausage gravy mistaken by oatmeal as i was mesmerized by the pancake pooping machine. That's right. A machine that pooped pancakes at the push of one button.
(The Pancake pooping machine)
We grabbed some coffee, a couple of not so ripe bananas (sorry Greg) ,some cinnabuns and went banging on Dec and Greg's door. When they finally managed to open the door this is what we found.
( The wine did not survive)
Rock & Roll!!! You might be thinking loudly in your head. And to that i have one thing to say. Hell
YEAH!
Baltimore
We left New-Ark (DE) and started our short journey to Baltimore, but before we had to make a quick stop at a friend's aunt Bakery "Sweets to You by Ginger".
( The Bakery, The Welders & Ginger)
It was a delightful and a literally Sweeeet experience. What a bunch of ,dare i say, SWEET people.
(Steve serenading us)
Back on Van Welder with a major sugar rush and aiming for Crabs, we were once again on the road. Next!! Baltimore.
We drove directly to the nice side of town and it was indeed quaint and beautiful.
( By the water front in Baltimore)
Van Welder needed a rest and so did we. We parked the machine and right across , there it was...Riptide By the Bay. Our quest for crabs have finally ended.
( The creepy man on the left wanted to give us his giant Crab)
(It only took 2 1/2 hours to be done with them)
We all enjoyed our crab fares and amused ourselves with all the plush humans walking by.
Before our gig we still had some time to kill ; so after a stroll by the water we found ourselves seating outdoors and having some more "Beverages" .
( Welders too stroll )
We also found out the venue we were playing was a downtown Baltimore bar frequented primarily by business man during the day and transformed into a quintessential Punk hang out at night.
( The Side Bar)
(Inside the Side Bar)
Perfect!
We were all looking forward to the whole night ahead and were the first ones to arrive and soon after DJ Amanda Otto with her all around coolness played her exquisite 45s.
( DJ Amanda Otto playing some great mod inspired tunes)
People were arriving as as we set up the stage and were asked to move Van Welder to make room for a Bus. A Bus?! Puzzled i stepped out of the club to check out what was going on as i got distracted by this Mohawk high/tattooed/Prince Albert pierced/ cool punk dude walking by.
( Not actual guy )
We nodded and smiled and i was sure he was coming to see us.
Back to the bus...Van Welder was moved and this Beautiful painted, stenciled and decorated school bus parked directly in front of VW. There might have some oil leakage by VW...It was love at first "park" ( I know...sorry...but it was, is true).Out of the Fab Bus comes out this cool, elegant lady. Stacy
(Stacy prepping the bus with an overbearing fan)
(Stacy)
( Amanda 'B. Saxons' and Declan Collins in Bus)
After a visit inside the bus and a few purchases, it was almost time to take the Stage.
The Black Saxons were in the house. The punk dude walked passed me again, nodded, smiled and just kept going. He never came back to me, I mean us.
We took the stage and played a great set. Met some great new friends and now the excitement was on to see our beloved Thuh Black Saxons Rock. Menphis Mike was joining them on guitar and backing vocals( I think), Amanda had now the keyboards in addition to her sexy tambourine, Don C. was ready to hit stuff behind the drums and Brad , the main man was looking cool as ever and ready.
They started their set and something was definitely going on. I was not quite sure what it was.
( Thuh Black Saxons)
I stepped out for a cigarette and a little socializing and went back inside for more Saxons, but it was over rather quickly :(
( Me with Amanda Otto and her 2 super cool friends)
It was now 1 AM.
It was time to say bye to old and new friends and get on the road back to NYC.
( Don Callahan sneaking up a smooch)
(MTW & Thuh Black Saxons in Baltimore)
(Greg Campbell & Don Callahan)
( They've got the light )
Thuh Black Saxons survived that night by staying up and recording in the morning.
We made home safe, sound and exhausted.
Now with Van Welder ,we may just come to you sooner than you think. Check out our new video again, it is a click away. Leave us your thoughts and comments and we promise to keep Rockin'.
Peace, Love & Rock
